The Invitation

By Oriah Mountain Dreamer

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living

I want to know what you ache for

And if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me how old you are

I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love,

for your dreams, for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon

I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow

If you have been opened by life’s betrayals or have been shriveled and closed

From fear of further pain

I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own,

without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own,

If you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes

without cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic, to remember the limitations of being human.

It does not interest me if the story you are telling me is true

I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself,

If you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul,

if you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see beauty even when it is not pretty, every day,

and if you can source your own life from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine,

And still stand on the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon ‘Yes!’.

It doesn’t interest me to know where you live or how much money you have,

I want to know if you can get up, after a night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone

And do what needs to be done to feed the children.

It doesn’t interest me who you know or how you came to be here

I want to know if you stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back

It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom you have studied

I want to know what sustains you, from the inside when all else falls away

I want to know if you can be alone with yourself

And if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

come alive...

November 29, 2008 15:41 by sundar.srinivasan
The recent events in mumbai are media events. And "media" and "performance" are so deeply linked.
Where is all our naturalness gone? Our "unconscious" controls us making us reactive and mechanized beings. We are zombies, robots in action, with our behaviours following predictable patterns. We are in essence no different from the militants. The violence and the hurts within us , if we can only be aware of it, is the venom that is manifesting in the world outside. Different people relate to different concepts and acquire their positionalities. And each believes they are right. For God's sake, let us separate facts from concepts.
It is an unfair and unequal world. Privileges are so varied. Consequently, events such as what has happened have to occur according to various laws of karma and principles of existence. Each one of us is a part creator to it through our lack of integrity and our basic sense of disconnect with our identities just as humans. We are constant "performers" , projecting ourselves far removed from what we actually are and our masks are the burdens we carry day in and day out.
If humans can just "BE" , our outer worlds can be the paradise we wish for deep down.
Yes, it is time for us to awaken within, reach out to the natural fountainheads of healing within and start to live, not merely exist.
The choice to create our universes is with each of us, not in symptomatic external changes.
The crisis of today is an opportunity for us to revisit ourselves and trigger the life force within.
Come let us move from conditioned , suffocative death to a vibrant life....

Our Readiness

October 5, 2008 13:52 by Admin

How often we read a book, over and over again ... and, yet, miss the point!

Ever since I recieved the copy of The Dawn Club book -- 'VAACHAS CHAME', I must have read it at least four times. I had really liked it; but, never did it make as much sense as it made to me yesterday.

I had gone to face an interview, yesterday. I am, essentially, a shy and nervous person. I have been making every affort to over come my shyness and build my self-confidence ... by reading books, attending Workshops, talking to supporting people and so on. Yet, my basic traits have stayed in me.

So, in spite of my home work, I came back from the interview, disappointed and crest-fallen.

At home, I picked the book -- 'VAACHAS CHAME', just to burry in it my anguish. And, lo!

It was making a different sense to me. I was reading it with my new eyes ... and, I was able to see a new hope.

Sometimes, anguish and pain are the mediums through which God helps us to learn and grow ... That's the way He toughens us ... prepares us for 'greater' things.

I am sure, my shyness has something 'nice' in store for me. I realised it last night, when I was reading 'VAACHAS CHAME'.

Whats love got to do with it?

September 22, 2008 11:49 by sundar.srinivasan
The recent murder of a media executive in Mumbai revolving around an aspiring actress and her boyfriend has drawn tremendous media attention with people pontificating their own perceptions on it.
Come to think of it, it could be the story of any 3 average , intelligent , ambitious people of the world, each consumed by their need for power, thrills, success and so on.It has nothing to do with love...
When a need consumes the mind, the mind is capable of anything.Fear, anger, possessiveness and so on control and overpower our lives day in and day out.It is rarely morality factors which keep us in check; it is rather the fear of social ostracization.
The average human life is a careful maintenance of these balances.
Each of us , when consumed by our needs is a potential source of danger to the world. When the unconscious controls us, we are capable of anything. As unhappy people , we are only capable of spreading unhappiness.
Awareness is the key, to be able to see ourselves just as the people we are, and not mask ourselves into the people we would like to be.When we wear our masks, after sometime, we fool ourselves into believing that we are the people we would like ourselves to be.
And the burden of our masks become unbearable after sometime and we collapse....
We mask the addressal of our needs as LOVE for our spouses, parents, children etc. If we are able to see it for what it is and our manipulative lifestyles using people unabashedly to achieve our objectives and accept ourselves for what we are, life would be a different ball-game.
Integrity is the key to a good life...a life of awareness , imo , is the highest morality...
Love and joy , emerging as a state of our being is the natural outcome of a life led in a dynamic awareness....
